Ghostbankers: Tales from the Funding Void

Where term sheets are temporary, and commitment issues are permanent.

Ghostbankers is a tongue-in-cheek (but painfully real) theme within the Live Better blog where we expose the absurd, avoidable, and all-too-common ways lenders disappear mid-deal.

If you’ve ever submitted a full loan package, paid a deposit, and then heard nothing but crickets?
You’ve been ghosted by a bank.
And unfortunately… you’re not alone.

We created Ghostbankers to shine a light on the funding black hole — where sometimes good deals go to die and borrowers get left in the creepiest room ever.

Each post shares a real story from the trenches:

  • What happened

  • Why it happened

  • And how to avoid falling into the same trap

But this isn’t just about roasting lenders (although yes, we do that occasionally, too).
It’s about understanding the mechanics behind the ghosting — and giving commercial real estate loan borrowers tools to avoid wasting time, money, or sanity.

Why I Created This Series

I’ve sat on both sides of the ghost story.

Early on, in my business like most entrepreneurs, I was everywhere. Big loans, small loans, shiny deals with hidden drama. I was chasing volume, juggling too much, and let’s be honest — probably dropped the ball on a few deals I shouldn’t have. Not because I didn’t care, but because I didn’t have the focus, systems, or clear lane I have now.

Then I became the borrower.
And let me tell you — being ghosted hits different when it’s your deal on the line.

I’ve felt what it’s like to have a lender smile on Monday, request documents Tuesday, and vanish by Friday.
No clarity. No closure. No loan.

That’s when I narrowed my focus to small-balance commercial loans — the deals most lenders treat like afterthoughts. Because I know the work it takes to close them, and I know how badly borrowers need someone who’s not going to vanish when it gets inconvenient.

🔍 What to Expect

Ghostbankers is part storytime, part borrower survival guide.
Each post will feature a:

  • A lending ghost story

  • A breakdown of what really happened behind the scenes

  • And a tip or takeaway to help you protect your next deal

Whether you’ve been ghosted, are mid-ghost, or just want to laugh while learning — you’re in the right place.

Let’s call out the chaos, laugh at the madness, and build a better way forward.
